June 30th, 2022. Ancestor Portraits

I have always loved portraits. In my opinion, It’s everything defined about a person in a single shot. It feels powerful to me. You have to pay attention to detail or else someone can be misunderstood.
My main inspiration, especially for this specific shoot was the anime series Gundam. The way the characters carry themselves and are presented is very statuesque like everyone is a celebrity almost. The actions they put ahead and their behavior is shown in what they wear, for example, My favorite character in the series. Char Aznable. He’s known for wearing his signature mask, as well as his bright red uniform. A Gundam is a giant robot used for war. His Gundam almost always will match his red attire. His personality is very intense and showboating

So much can be told by what you present to the world.

For these photos, I took inspiration from Char and Gundam as a whole. These two characters, I hadn’t thought too deeply about them in all honesty, the story I had written was these were portraits of someone’s Grandfather, or grandfathers In an old mansion

The one in green (left) Is well dressed with his popped collar. His face is darkened, suggesting something is hidden or kept secret but the green suggests a goodness or purity, in my opinion. Green being the color of nature, plants, and trees.

The one in orange (right) has a different story. Well dressed as well his face is not hidden in fact, he is in the light. His striking blue eyes (Inspired by the book dune) stare unwavering into the camera. his expression doesn’t give off a kindness, more of an anger analytical stare. The orange, being the color of fire suggests a danger around him. or passion, depending on your perspective.
